Army Vet Vincent Morin Gunned Down by Police Near Tampa for Open Carry

With heavy hearts we report on this story of US Army Staff Sergeant Vincent Morin’s firing-squad style killing. Staff Sergeant Morin was open carrying, which Florida’s executive branch under Governor Ron DeSantis still treats as a criminal act. Having survived multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and honorably discharged from the military due to injury, Vincent was unable to survive the local Hillsborough County Sheriff’s attack.

The incident has seen little to no coverage by pro-2a organizations. Some of Vincent’s injuries were neurological (TBI) and he suffered mental health challenges, which, of course, is extremely common for war veterans. KeepAndBear.org is calling upon gun rights organizations around the country to band together and declare that this incident was an intolerable attack on the 2nd Amendment resulting in the unjustified slaughter – and perhaps murder – of an American veteran.

What happened

On Wednesday, April 23, in the morning hours Vincent Morin ventured out of his apartment in kit carrying a rifle. The reason for this is unknown, but the fact remains: Vincent didn’t need a reason! Bearing arms, and especially rifles, is the right most-intended for protection under the 2nd Amendment. The 2A wasn’t written for concealed pistols, nor primarily for street crime. It was written to ensure people can always carry battle weapons so that the Militia cannot be disbanded or diminished and rendered useless. It was ratified to primarily ensure the People always maintain power over our own government. Crime prevention, war readiness and invasion deterrence were also discussed, but the main concern was a standing army.

Staff Sergeant Morin could have decided to simply exercise his rights that day. He could have decided to carry extra weight for additional exercise. He could have decided that he wanted extra readiness in service of his community while out and about. We may never know, since the police open fired on him seconds after approaching him. The police – looking and acting very much like the very standing army the founders of this great nation detested – treated Morin like an active shooter. But there is zero evidence he ever threatened anyone or pointed a firearm at anyone.

Hillsborough County (FL) Sheriff Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer says Vincent Morin carried “a fully loaded assault rifle” and was not there “to do anything peaceful” in an attempt to justify what appears to be a cold-blooded murder of someone enjoying their 2nd Amendment rights.
